Repair safety guide

Should a punctured tyre be repaired or replaced?

The answer depends on the damage location, size, tyre condition and whether the tyre was driven without pressure.

When repair may be possible

A small puncture within a suitable tread area may be repairable after the tyre and internal condition are inspected.

When replacement is safer

Sidewall damage, shoulder damage, large cuts, bulges, exposed cords, severe heat damage or very low tread normally require replacement.

Driving flat changes the decision

A tyre can suffer internal sidewall damage when driven without pressure. The outside may not reveal the full condition.

Previous repairs matter

Multiple repairs, overlapping damage or a repair too close to another injury can make another repair unsuitable.

How this guidance should be used

Vehicle manufacturer instructions and the actual tyre condition take priority. The photographs and vehicle details should be reviewed before a service decision, and the tyre must be inspected when repair safety is uncertain.

Important

This guide is general information. A technician must inspect the actual tyre and location before confirming a repair or replacement.
